*THIS IS A PAID OPPORTUNITY*
New year, new lockdown, but fear not! The UnDisposables are once again opening our arms to emerging writers, directors & actors, and this time we've been granted some funding! 🎉
Scratching the Servers: Wonder Women is an online new wright night being performed in association with the Space theatre over Zoom and Facebook live on Sunday 7th March at 7:30pm. As this event falls on the day before International Women's Day, the theme for the evening will be 'Wonder Women'.
But in order to have any new writing to show, we need you to apply to be a part of this one-off event. Interested? Great! Let's explain the details...
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Six pieces of new writing by different writers
A team of directors to take on a scene (or two!) each
A company of actors to bring these pieces to life
All scenes or monologues must*:
Fit within the theme of wonder women (this does not mean it literally has to be about Wonder Woman... interpret the theme as you like!)
Be no longer than 5 minutes when read aloud (approx. 4-6 pages)
Contain only one or two actors (actors can multirole)
Be suitable for being performed live online (this does not mean it has to be about lock down, or even be set on a Zoom call, be creative with the form!)
Be rehearsed online by the successful actors and directors for at least 5 hours prior to the performance
* Scenes submitted which do not fit the brief will not be considered
All applicants must be available on the 7th March for the full company rehearsal (from 12:30pm - 3pm) and for the live stream performance (from 6:30pm - 9:30pm).**
** These times may change slightly but the date will not
WHAT WILL YOU GAIN
All successful applicants will receive a £50 fee for their involvement.
All successful applicants will be invited to attend a free workshop on the joys and perils of online theatre.
All successful applicants will be invited to a live Q&A about their piece following the performance.
Every piece will be performed to an online audience via live stream, to get as close as we can to live theatre from a distance.
Scratching the Servers is a place for growth, learning and professional experience which you can stick on your CVs and casting profiles. It’s also a great space to meet and work with like-minded creatives, which is especially crucial in these uncertain times.
Writer? Time to get those literary juices flowing and boldly share your work with others.
Director? Why not take on a virtual challenge outside of your usual comfort zone.
Actor? How about you exercise those acting muscles with a brand new character.
HOW WILL THE SHOW WORK
The show will be performed live via a Zoom webinar, which we will make available for up to 100 guests (excluding the artists involved). We will also be live-streaming the show on Facebook so that even more people can watch it live and/or after the event has ended. Want even more detail on what to expect? Why not watch our previous Scratching the Servers here.
We will be working hard to make this virtual show as close to the real thing as possible. We'll be putting together an e-programme as well as posting all casting announcements on our social media, like we normally would.
The company wants this event to be as accessible as possible in light of current events, and so we are letting our audience choose between three ticket options:
Supporter rate - £15
Standard rate - £10
Low Income - Free
All tickets give you the same access to the Zoom performance, so the choice is completely up to you! We would like to encourage you only to pay for what you can.
Any money raised from ticket sales will go towards funding the Space and The UnDisposbales as they continue to create future opportunities for emerging artists.
HOW TO APPLY
You can apply for multiple roles (e.g. actor, director and writer if you're a superhuman!) and we will consider you for all you apply for, but you may not be guaranteed all the roles you apply for.
We have created a quick and easy Google form for you to complete. There are two versions of the form so make sure you select the correct one.***
This form is for all applicants who have an existing Google account.
...and this form is for everyone who can't/doesn't want to create a Google account.
***The reason for the two forms is because the first form requires you to sign into to a Google account to upload the required documents (scripts, CVs, etc). The second form is to allow Google-less people to still apply by sending these documents to us via email. Other than this small difference, the forms are identical, so don't worry about missing anything!
All is explained in the forms so fill them in and get in touch if you have any questions.
You can contact us on creatives@undisposables.co.uk****
****please only use this address for asking questions and submitting documents, not instead of completing the Google Form. If you send your full application to the email and not on the Google form, your submission will not be considered.
So what are you waiting for? get applying!
Deadline for applications is 5pm 1 February 2021
